Whoops.

Happy New Year!

Clearly I did very little blogging last semester.  Whoops!  Graduate school was a lot more time intensive than I thought.  Obviously I knew I would be doing a lot of work, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be doing as much as I did.  So a quick recap of Fall Semester 2011:

  • I ran 4.5 miles for the first time
  • I wrote two, twenty page papers
  • I read until I thought my eyeballs would stop working.
  • I measured and drew a house by hand
  • I learned to how to do architectural drafting
  • I learned AutoCAD
  • I went to Savannah, Georgia for the first time
  • I celebrated my cousin Davis' 4th birthday with him
  • I went to 4 SEC football games.  Go Dawgs!
Of course that's just the short list, the highlights if you will.  It was an intense semester, but I had a good time.  I learned a lot about not only historic preservation, but a lot about interacting with people and how to win friends and influence people.  I definitely learned a lot about myself.

Spring Semester '12 begins on January 9th, so I've still got a few days before I head back down to Athens.  I am cleaning out my closet and trying to consolidate all the junk I have left over from undergrad.  Seeing all this junk on the floor is giving me anxiety! But before I go back I'd like to get this project finished for sure.

Looking back on my 2011 goals, I think I accomplished them!  The ones I may not have conquered I at least gave a valiant effort towards.  The first was to drink more water.  Check!  My Camelbak and my Tervis Tumbler's have gotten a lot of use.  Second was to keep going to the gym.  Check!  The gym kept me sane while juggling school, work, a thesis, and graduate school applications during my final semester of undergrad, and the gym is still keeping me sane now.  I like running the area around my apartment, too.  Third was to stop swearing so much.  Definitely reduced that, though Georgia drivers still elicit the worst in me!  Finally, I wanted to run another 5k.  I am proud to say I ran THREE!! I ran the Kappa Delta Shamrock n Run in February and was hoping to run the Zeta Tau Alpha Franklin 5k when I fell down the stairs.  Esmerelda, the immobilizer I wore for three weeks, prevented that.  However, as soon as I was cleared to stop wearing the immobilizer, I began running again.  I ran Winston-Salem's Beat the Heat 5k in July with a (failed) love interest and the Winston-Salem Turkey Strut 5k on Thanksgiving with my mom.  Nearly made me sub-30 minute goal too.  :)  Oh well, I accept that I am a slow runner.

I am excited about next year and all the new opportunities it brings!!  This year I would like to:

1. Keep running!!  Future half-marathoner right here.

2. Finish Jesus Calling.  It's a daily devotional that I've been reading every day.  My "church mouse" gave it to me last year for graduation.  It's very special to me.

3. Make straight As!  Almost made it this semester... one pesky A-!

4. Have fun!

5. Blog more?! Clearly I dropped the ball on this.  Here's hoping I can be more regular this year!

Happy New Year!  Best Wishes to everyone who may read this. :)
